SyncStudio
An add-on for Google Sheets

Live data in your spreadsheet, kept fresh.

SyncStudio brings data from your databases and business applications into Google Sheets and refreshes it on a schedule. Numbers arrive as numbers, dates as dates, and the formulas you keep beside the data keep working.

Early access. SyncStudio is still being built. The add-on is not yet listed in the Google Workspace Marketplace. This site describes what it does and the terms it will be offered on.

What it does

One import is one question answered in one tab: which data, from where, how often.

Refresh on a schedule

Hourly, daily or weekly, in the spreadsheet's own time zone. Nobody needs to have the file open. You can also refresh by hand, from the sidebar or the menu.

Safe for the sheet around it

An import writes only its own columns. Formulas you keep beside the data are extended to new rows. Text from a source is never run as a formula.

Replace, append or update by key

Rewrite the tab on each refresh, add new rows under the old ones, or update rows in place by a key column and add the new ones.

Know when something breaks

Alerts by email, Slack or Google Chat when a refresh fails or a number crosses a limit: once when it goes wrong, once when it is right again. Errors say what to press.

Snapshots

Keep a dated copy of a tab from before a refresh changed it, every refresh or once a day, week or month.

Combine and reshape

Stack several imports into one, or match them on a key. Rename columns, convert text to dates and numbers, and describe what each column means.

Write back Beta

Edit rows in a tab and write them to a PostgreSQL, MySQL or SQL Server table, after reviewing every value that would change.

AI that drafts Beta

Describe the data you want and get a query to review. The model is shown the names of your tables and columns. It is never shown your rows.

For AI assistants Beta

Let Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and other assistants read your team's imports through the Model Context Protocol, with a key you can remove at any time.

41 sources

Deepest on BigQuery, which shows what a query will cost before it runs. An import only ever reads from its source, and the connection forms ask for read-only credentials.

How it works

Three steps, in a sidebar inside the spreadsheet.

  1. Connect a source

Sign in with Google for BigQuery and Analytics, or enter a database's or an application's read-only credentials. They are tested before they are saved.

  2. Choose the data

Pick a table and its columns, add filters, or write SQL. A preview shows the first rows before anything is written. Templates fill this step in for common reports.

  3. Pick a tab and a schedule

Name the import, choose where it goes and how often it refreshes. The first import runs straight away.

Careful with your data

What the service keeps, and what it does not, is set out in full on the security page.

  • The rows from your sources and the contents of your cells pass through while an import runs. They are not stored.
  • Credentials are encrypted before they are stored, and no part of the product ever shows them again.
  • One price covers the whole team. Nobody is left out because of a per-person charge.
  • No overage fees. Reaching a plan's limit stops that one action and says why.
